Young Leader Programme and Academy
2019-Present Day
Working with Enthusiastic young people to provide volunteering opportunities within their club. This initiative was set up to create confident young coaches that could see themselves with a career in sport. This was taken from the British Gymnastics pathway of the Leaders Academy for 11-16 years for Gymnasts to be engaged with coaching.
This amazing pathway has seen over 120 volunteers through its doors providing jobs for over 40 young people with over 60 in volunteering roles across our three sites. South Essex have an incredible team of coaches that are passionate about sharing their knowledge and ideas to the next generation of coaches.
We have shown this by running regular training sessions for our volunteers on different pathways to show the variation to the sport and help educate all areas to build a well-rounded coach.

Schools Partnership Programme
2022-Present Day
In 2022 the schools partnership programme was created, SEGC visited local teacher conferences to pitch the idea to schools in the Basildon area. As a result in 2023 we visited 3 schools. Billericay Primary School, Felmore Primary School and Runwell Primary I have visited these schools with Gemma, Dave, Max, Katie, Kayleigh and Jade. These coaches have been a huge support behind the schools programme and running of the 6 weeks.
This resulted in some lovely feedback for coaches and children being talent spotted for MAG and WAG groups. We made a further link with our 4th school (Downham primary School) in 2024, Gemma and Max completed a 6 week programme working with year 1 children and enthused children to become involved in the world of Gymnastics.
Following the positive comments from the schools we visited , we have had further interest from outside the are in doing school visits and hosting schools events both at SEGC and visiting.
Cara lead a CPD pathway with Eversley, taking coaches through the basics to supporting young children and key skills needed to aid young gymnasts. South Essex are excited to partner with locals schools to spread the love of gymnastics to as many young people as possible.
This partnership would not have been possible without the support of Active Essex. We were able to provide 5 primary schools with free classes for a 6 week rotation. Active Essex allocated £1500 to support South Essex with this project. This went towards the cost of the classes, equipment which was used within the schools and travel expenses for coaches.
Outside Funding Applications
During a very strange time in the world, South Essex was coping with a pandemic and also keeping the club alive. Go fund me sites were set up to provide a small income for the club. Virtual quiz nights were set up to allow club members to still feel part of the club. This raised £320 with the help of Jack Holgarth hosting the event.
Crowdfunder and Sport England provided a huge support for South Essex during this time, with rewards for donations being provided by coaches and local companies, we were able to raise £6500 which was partly funded by Sports England as a match promise.
Allianz Sports Fund (Private) was suggested by a parent of one of our members to help with ongoing costs of equipment repairs and replacements. The club was awarded £3000. This went towards a new slide and supporting blocks used for SEN sessions.
2021 saw our first external funding to grant pots available to sporting cubs like South Essex. The Cherry Tree family funded sensory equipment for our pre school programme with £500 additional awarded to the application submitted. With the additional money the club put coaches on further education courses including our Young Leader pathways.
2021 during a difficult time for the club following the covid pandemic saw our next lot of funding to provide support for both our coaches and our Gymnasts returning to the gym. With no contact supporting allowed with Gymnasts, coaches had to be creative with set ups. Active Essex awarded South Essex with £1500 which bought 3 new supporting blocks for Gym 2. Without the funding from Active Essex we would not have been able to provide the same quality sessions at the time of the pandemic.

South Essex joined such groups as go raise and go fund me to help through the pandemic with online shopping being the only option for many this was a great opportunity to create revenue for the club through its Charity status.

Further Community work alongside Active Essex and Active Basildon, Brentwood.
