A Bit About Me

Hi, I’m Karen. I first came to South Essex at 10 years old as a women’s Artistic Gymnast. I trained up until the age of 18, as a gymnast I competed many times at the British championships winning medals on Vault and Bars. I was also part of the team that won the British Team championships in both 1999 and 2001. I have now been part of this club for 28 years.

After I stopped training I went off to University where I gained my BA(Hons) degree in Sport and Exercise science. After retuning form University I then started a full time position here at South Essex and soon become Women’s head coach. I done this role for around 5-6 years, during this time the gymnasts I worked with competed all the way through the elite compulsory system and up to the British championships. Some were also part of the GB national Development squad. I later stepped down as Head coach and had my 2 children.

I now work in a part time role along-side Ross (Head coach) on the Womens Artistic side in the office to help with the running of the discipline and also help to coach many of the gymnasts here.

I am a Level 5 (High Performance Coach), a women’s Artistic Club Judge and first aid trained. Gymnastics has always been a huge passion of mine and I love to work with the gymnasts and coaches in my role. This club has been a huge part of my life and I am very proud to be part of it.
