This past weekend, our Rhythmoids competed at the Junior and Senior English Championships held on June 29 and 30, 2024, at the University of Wolverhampton in Walsall. Under the guidance of Coach Katie O’Connor, our athletes showcased their hard work and determination.
Outstanding Achievements
On Saturday, Jade Woollard and Lily-Rose Doel represented our senior level competitors. Jade had an emotional competition as this was her last ever event. She performed beautifully, enjoying every moment on the carpet and achieving a personal best score of 22.2 in Ball, finishing 5th Overall, with 8th in Hoop, 5th in Ribbon, and 4th in Ball. Lily-Rose, competing in her first year at senior level, impressed with her confidence and substantial improvements, finishing 9th Overall, with 7th in Hoop, 11th in Ribbon, and 9th in Ball.
On Sunday, Lila Ward-Smith, Sophie Risidore, and Emily Scott took to the floor in Level 2. Lila started the day in the junior category with her new Clubs routine. Despite a few mistakes, she demonstrated great potential and finished 5th Overall with 3rd in Hoop and 9th in Clubs.
Sophie and Emily then competed in the senior category, where Sophie showcased her improved routines, earning her the title of Vice English Champion in all three pieces, finishing 2nd Overall, 2nd in Ball, and 2nd in Ribbon. Emily delivered exceptional performances in both Ribbon and Ball, securing 3rd in Ribbon and being crowned English Champion not only in Ball but also Overall, finishing 1st Overall!
Coaches’ Corner
Coach Katie O’Connor shared her reflections on the weekend, saying, “On Saturday, Lily-Rose and Jade competed in Senior Level 4. Jade had an emotional competition ahead of her, and she performed beautifully, enjoying every last second on the carpet. Lily-Rose impressed me as a first-year senior, stepping onto the floor with great confidence and making huge improvements.
On Sunday, Lila made her Clubs debut with room for growth, and she performed her best Hoop routine yet. Sophie’s improved routines earned her the Vice English Champion title, while Emily's fantastic performances crowned her as English Champion Overall!”
As we celebrate these incredible accomplishments, we look forward to the continued success of our talented Rhythmoids. Thank you for your dedication and hard work!
